How to Configure CITIBIN for a Home, a Building, or a City

How to Configure CITIBIN for a Home, a Building, or a City

Every home puts different demands on its front entrance. A brownstone with a single household and a 32-gallon trash can needs something fundamentally different from a three-family building cycling through 96-gallon trash bins twice a week. The trash enclosure has to fit the can, the available space, and the way the house looks from the street.

A fixed size, finish, and configuration will work well for one household and poorly for most others. CITIBIN was built as a system to address that directly, offering three sizes, multiple colors, and a set of add-ons that expand the enclosure's function to match what a property actually requires, whether that's basic trash containment or a full outdoor setup handling packages, mail and planters.

CITIBIN trash enclosures are prefabricated, modular, and ready to assemble. Each enclosure is built from discrete modules, and the total count determines how many trash cans the unit holds. A single-module enclosure houses one can, a two-module unit holds two, and the count can go higher from there as space and need require.

Modularity matters here for a practical reason. As a household's needs change, capacity can be adjusted at the same location without replacing the whole unit. That same two-module enclosure can grow to three if a recycling bin gets added, and a section can come out if circumstances shift the other way.

The size of each module determines which cans fit inside. The color, selected from three options, matches the enclosure to the exterior of the home. The add-ons, covering packages, mail, or plants depending on what the property needs, are covered in the sections that follow.

Property size and trash volume aren't the same thing, and CITIBIN accounts for both.

Sizing, Modularity, and Finish Options

The Small enclosure fits cans up to 44 gallons, which covers most single-family homes running standard residential pickup. The Medium fits 45 to 55 gallon cans, a range that handles a wide share of residential setups. The Large fits 65 to 96 gallon cans, suited to properties with higher weekly volume, whether that's a larger household, a multi-family building with a dedicated trash area, or simply a property that generates more than a standard bin holds.

All three sizes are built on the same modular system. At an existing location, capacity can be added or reduced as needs change without moving or replacing the unit, which matters because these enclosures weigh over 600 pounds and are not practical to relocate once installed. If you're not sure which size fits your cans, the can diameter is the practical starting point. CITIBIN's site includes a sizing guide, and the team can confirm the right fit before you order.

Residential enclosures come in three finish options, each chosen to pair naturally with the range of materials and tones typical of home exteriors.

Charcoal is a deep, near-black that pairs well with darker architectural details and sits unobtrusively against shadowed entryways. Slate is a cooler gray that works with both light and dark facades without pulling attention. Coffee is a warmer tone, closer to a natural wood or earthy brown, and tends to complement brick, terracotta, and similarly warm palettes.

All three are chosen to stay out of the way visually rather than stand out. The intent is a trash enclosure that fits the exterior without calling attention to itself as something added on. CITIBIN's bamboo composite siding is formulated to resist fading through prolonged sun and weather exposure, so the finish holds its appearance over time.

If you're uncertain which fits your home, the photographs on CITIBIN's site show each finish in real outdoor installations, making it easier to see how the options look in natural light against actual architecture.

The trash enclosure itself is the foundation, but the add-ons let you expand what the CITIBIN does for your property.

Add-Ons, Configuration, and Color

The ParcelBin is a package locker that can be configured alongside your trash enclosure or ordered as a standalone unit. It's one of the largest residential package lockers available, with enough interior space to accept oversized deliveries that a standard locker would turn away. Because the ParcelBin's top is stationary, a mailbox insert can slide in between the main unit and its top, giving you a dedicated mail slot without interfering with how the locker works. A trash enclosure's top door opens daily to accept bags, so the mailbox insert isn't offered there, but on the ParcelBin it fits cleanly into the configuration.

If greenery matters to you, a planter top is available in place of a plain top on both the trash enclosures and the ParcelBin. It's a small planter box built directly into the top door, clad in the same bamboo composite as the rest of the unit, for a flush, integrated look.

These decisions don't have to be made all at once. You can start with a trash enclosure in the size and finish that fits your home now, and add components as your needs change. A property with one household has different demands than one shared by several, and the configuration can reflect that from the beginning or shift over time.

Anthony Maldonado, a superintendent who found CITIBIN while dealing with a rodent problem in his building, put it plainly in his Google review, writing, "With the uptick in rodents here in the city, I as a Superintendent was looking for a better option to store our trash while at the same time not have the area be an eyesore. Citibin was the only option I found. These bins are great and keep the rodents out."

Modularity for Cities and Parks

A city block, a park entrance, and a business district generate very different amounts of trash, and a location’s needs shift over time. A unit sized once and left alone ends up too big in some places and too small in others.

CITIBIN’s modular system sizes a municipal installation to the location instead of to a standard unit. For a city or park, a volume assessment decides the size of the installation, because the amount of trash a location generates each day determines how many modules it needs.

Capacity can also change after installation. CITIBIN keeps module inventory in its warehouse so units can be added or removed as needs change.

Tight sites are covered too. The corner module creates L- or U-shaped layouts and works with all three sizes.

For litter collection, BasketPlus follows the same modular logic. Open-top litter basket modules can be grouped together, and others can be dedicated to trash, recycling, or compost where a program separates waste streams.

Municipal and park installations typically use branded vinyl wraps instead of the residential board colors, so the three finishes covered above apply to homes.

For a city, park, district, or campus, the process starts with a walk-through of the site. The proposal that follows includes a rendering of the most problematic area and a module count based on a volume assessment. Start at the municipal page to request a quote.

CITIBIN's team is ready to help you select the right size, finish, and add-ons for your home. Renderings are a standard part of the design process, and the team is glad to do one so you can see how your configuration will look before ordering.
