We studied trash enclosures for years before building one. What we found: rust, bad aesthetics, and products that didn't look much better than the bins they were hiding. The category was full of solutions that solved the wrong problem.

We started from scratch with better materials — aluminum that doesn't rust, sustainable bamboo composite borrowed from the decking world — and a conviction to build the best trash enclosure there ever was. It was a category-creating idea, and it became a category-creating company.

In 2012, our founder built the first CITIBIN in her Brooklyn backyard. We've iterated nonstop since then.

Bamboo composite is an engineered board made from bamboo fiber — the same material category used in quality outdoor decking. We've used it since the beginning because it's warm-looking, built for long-term outdoor exposure, and genuinely sustainable: bamboo grows fast, regenerates without replanting, and puts far less strain on forests than traditional hardwood. Like a good deck, it's also low maintenance — no painting, no sealing, just occasional cleaning.

The metal core structure stays the same. What changes is the siding — and we can get creative with it. Options include vinyl wraps, murals, home siding materials, and natural wood.
