A love letter to Brooklyn Heights
The neighborhood CITIBIN first called home — brownstone blocks, a commercial corridor, and a waterfront park that trusted us before containerization was city policy. Every company has a first block. Ours runs through Brooklyn Heights, NY. Since 2012, this is the neighborhood where CITIBIN took on everything for the first time. Our first residential clients lived here. Our first Business Improvement District partnership started here. Our earliest restaurants and parks were here too, years before the “trash revolution.”. We built our first enclosures for the way Brooklyn Heights actually looks, with brownstone blocks where the sidewalk doubles as the front yard, and a commercial strip that takes its curb appeal seriously. What worked here became the template we carried into every city since. That includes the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, a public space where foot traffic and waste management have to coexist, and the Montague Street BID, our first partner in keeping a busy commercial corridor clean. And there are the local businesses that let a young company prove itself on their block, including Felice, Chama Mama, Brooklyn Cat Cafe, and L'Appartement 4F. Fourteen years later, we're still doing the same thing we set out to do in 2012, which is to keep waste contained and the streetscape clean. Brooklyn Heights is where we figured out how to do it. Watch our video on the neighborhood below.
