Make the secure choice the easy choice
Choose a trash containment setup people will use correctly without friction — because convenience is what drives consistency.
Keep latches functional and the enclosure clean. Bear-resistant guidance emphasizes keeping latches operational and reducing lingering odors — because odor can increase repeat investigation.
Align with local requirements. IGBC-certified products provide a proven solution for meeting food and waste storage requirements on designated public lands, and similar standards are reflected in many municipal ordinances and HOA regulations.
IGBC Certified Bear-Resistant
The GrizzBin is IGBC certified after being tested in Montana by six 400-600-pound grizzly bears. Made from powder-coated steel with a bear-resistant opening mechanism, it keeps wildlife out and communities safe.
Larger Than Typical Bear Bins
Typical bear enclosures hold just 1–2 bags of trash. Each GrizzBin module holds 3-4 full bags in a 96-gallon can —delivering the capacity communities need in an enclosure that looks as good as it performs.
Modular
CITIBIN’s modular design adapts to any property. From 2 modules for a single-family home to 8 or more for multi-family or resort communities, the GrizzBin scales to meet your space and waste stream requirements—while elevating the look of any setting.
Our Bear Testing Story
Years in development. Built for strength, safety, and style. The GrizzBin by CITIBIN is now IGBC certified to protect people and bears alike.

Secure trash storage that fits your community
If your household, HOA, or town is dealing with repeated bear activity around trash, GrizzBin is built for the realities of life in bear-active regions: secure containment, tested performance, and a design that still looks like it belongs.

Bear Facts
A grizzly’s sense of smell is seven times stronger than a bloodhound’s. As bear populations rise, human–bear encounters are increasing—and unsecured trash is one of the biggest causes. Once bears associate neighborhoods with food, they keep coming back, putting both people and bears at risk.

From Rats to Bears
CITIBIN started in New York, building enclosures tough enough to stop rats. Now, we’ve taken that same approach to the Rockies, creating a bin that’s proven to keep out grizzlies.

FAQs: GrizzBin and bear-resistant trash storage
What is the GrizzBin?
What is the GrizzBin?
The GrizzBin is CITIBIN's bear-resistant waste container, built for campgrounds, resorts, parks, and communities where bears are a real wildlife management concern — not a marketing claim. It was created by popular demand: CITIBINCitibin customers who'd been using our enclosures to keep rats, raccoons, and squirrels out of their trash wanted the same solution scaled up for bear country. We built it from steel, gave it IGBC-certified bear-resistant hardware, and designed it to look like something you'd actually want on your property.
What does "bear-resistant" actually mean?
What does "bear-resistant" actually mean?
A container is bear-resistant — not bear-proof — when a bear can't open it through normal foraging behavior within a defined time period, per IGBC (Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee) testing standards. Certification involves live bear testing at an approved facility. Bear-resistant certification is the recognized standard for wildlife-safe waste storage in bear country.

Why is the GrizzBin made from steel instead of aluminum?
Why is the GrizzBin made from steel instead of aluminum?
Bears are strong and hungry. Our residential and municipal enclosures are built from aluminum, which is plenty durable for urban use. For bear country, steel is the right material — it's stronger and holds up to the force bears will apply when they're motivated. We don't cut corners on this.
How does it open? Is it hard for people to use?
How does it open? Is it hard for people to use?
The GrizzBin uses the type of paddle handle you'll find on bear-resistant containers worldwide — it's the established standard in bear country for a reason. It takes a little practice, but once you know, you know. Bears rely on strength and persistence, not fine motor skills, so a handle that requires a specific sequence defeats them without being a burden to people who've used it once.

Steel construction with powder-coated finish. Bears will test it — that's the point. It's designed and certified to hold up.
Where is the GrizzBin appropriate?
Where is the GrizzBin appropriate?
National parks, state parks, campgrounds, resorts, mountain towns, and residential communities in active bear habitat. We're also working with composting programs in areas like Bozeman, Montana, where urban bear activity makes standard containers unusable.
Can the GrizzBin be used for composting?
Can the GrizzBin be used for composting?
Yes. We're developing a compost-specific version of the GrizzBin for programs operating in bear country. Composting in bear habitat requires specific design: odor management, bin access, and latch mechanisms that work for staff doing daily pickups. Our compost-focused GrizzBin addresses those directly. Contact us if you're running a composting program in bear country.
Does it keep other animals out too?
Does it keep other animals out too?
Yes. The same design that defeats bears handles raccoons, squirrels, and other foragers easily.
How do I know what size to get?

We offer single-module and multi-module configurations. Contact us with your bin size and volume and we'll recommend the right setup.
Is the GrizzBin available for residential use?
Is the GrizzBin available for residential use?
Yes, for properties in bear habitat. If you live in bear country and want the same design quality you'd expect from CITIBINCitibin, the GrizzBin is built for you. For urban residential use where bears aren't a factor, our standard aluminum enclosures are the better fit.
What's the warranty?
What's the warranty?

Can you provide references or show us GrizzBin installations?
Yes — we're happy to provide references, photos, and specific site addresses. GrizzBin installations are in active use at campgrounds and in communities in bear country. If you want to talk to someone who's using one in the field before you buy, we can make that connection.
How do I order or get a quote?
How do I order or get a quote?
Contact us directly. GrizzBin orders typically involve a bit more conversation than standard residential purchases — particularly for parks, campgrounds, and composting programs with specific requirements. We'd rather talk to you first and make sure you get the right configuration.
